How real estate agents can keep every sign up to date with one QR code

One smart QR code per board. It opens the listing while the home is for sale, the open-house page on the day, and your other listings once it’s sold.

The problem with static sign codes

Many agents print a static QR code that opens one listing on a property portal. When the home sells, the portal removes the listing, and anyone who scans the sign lands on an error page.

The board can’t go up at the next property without a new panel, rider or a sticker over the old code.

How it works

One smart QR code, from listing to sold

Each rule is a Smart Redirect on the board’s code. TOL checks them in the order you created them, so the open-house rule goes first. Example: an open house on Saturday, 11:00–13:00.

When the home sells, change the code’s standard link to your other listings and disable the open-house rule. The board can then move to the next address.

  1. Open-house date, Sat 11:00–13:00 → open-house page: floor plan, price, check-in formPeople outside on the day get what they need to walk in.
  2. Buyer’s phone language (optional) → the same listing in that languageSelect every language that shares a translation in one rule.
  3. Everyone else, while for sale → the listing pageThe fallback: photos, price and how to book a viewing.
  4. Once sold → your other listings and a valuation formChange the standard link: buyers who missed out see similar homes.

Step by step

Set it up in TOL

  1. Stage 1 · Prepare
  2. Build the listing, open-house and “other listings” pages, with a consent checkbox on every form and UTM tags on the links.
  3. Check the time zone in your TOL account settings, and add your agents as users.
  4. Connect your own domain, such as homes.youragency.com, before you create any codes. Premium
  5. Stage 2 · Build in TOL
  6. Create one code per board, name it after the board (for example “Board 07”) and set the listing as its standard link.
  7. Add the open-house rule first, then a language rule if you need one.
  8. Design the code, and add the caption and the smart link under it.
  9. Test on a separate code: scan the listing and add an open-house rule that starts now.
  10. Stage 3 · Launch and look after it
  11. Print and put up the boards. For each new open house, edit the dates of the same rule.
  12. When the home sells, change the standard link to your other listings the same day, before the portal removes the listing.
  13. When the board moves, change the standard link to the new listing. Keep your plan paid while boards are in use.

Link to a page that lastsPoint the code to the listing on your own website when you can: portals remove listings when they end.

Forms and personal dataCheck-in and valuation forms collect contact details, so add a consent checkbox and a privacy-policy link (GDPR, PIPEDA).

Change the link, not the sign

You print the sign once. What you save is a new print every time a home sells or a board moves.

FAQ

What should a QR code on a real estate sign link to?

To the listing: photos, price, floor plan and a way to book a viewing, ideally on your own website. A TOL smart QR code can also open the open-house page on the day and your other listings once the home is sold.

What happens to the QR code on a for-sale sign when the house sells?

With a static code, it points to a removed listing. With a TOL smart QR code, you change its standard link to your other listings or a valuation form.

Can I reuse a real estate sign with a QR code for another property?

Yes, if the code is dynamic: change the board’s standard link to the new listing and put the board up at the next address.

Can a QR code on a sign show open-house details only on the open-house day?

Yes. Add a rule with the date and the start and end time; outside those hours the code opens the listing as usual.

Print one smart QR code per board and keep it working from listing to sold

Set your rules once and change them any time, without reprinting.
